Join Laurie in an exciting, hands-on weekend workshop that will explore charcoal techniques in a representational manner. Students will experiment with different varieties of charcoal, practice application techniques on an assortment of charcoal papers and other supports, and learn to use tools associated with the medium. The effects of light and shadow shall be investigated and applied to both still life composition, and the live model. Demonstrations, lectures, and individual guidance provided by Laurie will assist students at all levels in developing their skills with charcoal. Topics covered in the workshop include basic drawing, proportion, composition, value contrasts, photography reference, use of light - and much more! Some drawing experience is recommended, but not required for this workshop.

The chairs have been assigned the personalities of those who sat on them. Within the rigid lines of wainscoting and framework, the implied presence of humanity is infused in the construction of the man-made environ as well as the vague auras of inhabitants past. With rich lush blacks and pristine sharp lines, Laurie Sponagle fixes the warmth of humanity into the venues and, with her nudes, fixes humanity in a cold contrast of black and white. The nudes, without heads, have no identity. The chairs have been lent the identity of sitters.
